The purpose of this review is to provide information on homoeopathy for the prevention and treatment
of epidemic diseases. Homoeopathy is the one among many alternative health care systems; it has its own
th
unique concept and practice. It was founded during the 18 century by Dr. Samuel Christian Hahnemann
(1755 - 1843), a German physician.
This paper not only explains the way to utilize homoeopathy in epidemic situations from the historical
point of view, but also raises the issue of homoeopathy and a flu pandemic. The three chief remedies, which
had been utilized in the influenza pandemic of 1918, were Gelsemium sempervirens, Arsenicum album and
Bryonia alba. Thai plants that belong to the same genuses are Gelsemium elegans, Bryonia laciniosa and
Bryonia leucocarpa.
