The study involved cross-sectional descriptive research, the purpose of which was to study the motiva-
tional factors affecting the performance of service through the Traditional Thai Medicine Standard among
public health officers in the Health Center of Khon Kaen Province. The study population comprised 248
public health officers from the Health Center of Khon Kaen Province; 124 samples were selected by system-
atic random sampling and 12 interviews. The findings revealed that most of the samples were female (63.7%)
with an average age of 38.1 years. Most of them were married (77.4%), and has a bachelor’s degree (73.4%).
Their income ranged from 10,001 to 20,000 baht (49.2%) and their average experience was 3.12 years. Moti-
vation was at medium level (= 3.15, SD = 0.61); motivation factor and hygiene factor were all at the medium
level (= 3.26, SD = 0.53 and = 3.08, SD = 0.56) and their performance based on the Traditional Thai Medicine
Standard for Public Health Officers was at the medium level (=2.83, SD = 0.70). Personnel characteristics,
such as office rank and motivation, were significantly related to the Traditional Thai medicine standard at the
0.05 level (r = 0.762, p-value < 0.001, r = 0.710, p-value < 0.001, r = 0.740, p-value < 0.001). There were
significant variables that predicted the performance of public health officers in the health center, such as
achievement motivation factor, hygiene interpersonal relation factor, hygiene work condition factor and hy-
giene job security factor, with motivation at the 0.05 level. These four factors could predict performance with
regard to the Traditional Thai Medicine Standard at 65.1 percent. The most problematic areas were hygienic
work conditions and hygiene job security.
Key words: motivation, performance of service, the Traditional Thai Medicine Standard, public health offic-
ers, health center
